OUR THEME FOR September: EmPathy
Empathy is seeing others with understanding. It moves us to respond with kindness and love. Empathy reflects the heart of Christ.
Meditation
Theme: “I’m Not Leaving You!”
Main Woman: Ruth
Primary Scripture: Ruth 1:16–17
Lesson
Ruth had every reason to walk away. Naomi was older, grieving, and had very little to offer Ruth. Yet Ruth chose empathy over convenience.
Ruth essentially said, “Where you go, I will go.”
Empathy sometimes means staying when leaving would be easier. It means recognizing that someone may not need us to fix their situation. They may simply need us to see what they are carrying and stand beside them while they carry it.
Ruth’s empathy was more than a feeling. She allowed Naomi’s pain and circumstances to shape how she responded to her. She stayed. She walked with her. She made Naomi’s journey part of her own.
That choice eventually positioned Ruth for a blessing she could not have imagined. She became part of the lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ.
Three Scriptures
-
Ruth 1:16–17 — Ruth commits herself to Naomi.
-
Ruth 2:11–12 — Ruth’s kindness and sacrifice are recognized.
-
Proverbs 19:17 — Kindness toward those in need is treated as kindness toward God.
Takeaway
Empathy says, “You don’t have to walk through this alone.”
Quick Reflection
Who needs me to simply stay beside them right now?
